Matchday #1 Results and Commentary

What a start!

Matchday #1 featured 16 competitors split into 4 teams for two matchups. These were:

Team A: Huan, Yichau, Kevin, Gary
Team B: Lawrence, Ken, Ron, Kwong

Result: Lawrence, Ken, Ron, Kwong (7) def. Huan, Yichau, Kevin, Gary (3)

Team B were able to establish a strong lead from the start. Despite a comeback bid by Team A, that wasn't enough as Team B won the crucial doubles match, clinching the victory. It would have been a tie had Team B won the doubles matchup.
Note: One of the singles matches did not go ahead as schedule, but that did not make a difference in the end.

Team C: Lev, Jason, Almaz, John
Team D: Romeo, Ha, Shuai, Carrie

Result: Romeo, Ha, Shuai, Carrie (7) def. Lev, Jason, Almaz, John (4)

This matchup went down to the wire. Of the 9 singles matches, there were 5 matches that went the full five sets.

Team D was up 5-4 after the 9 singles matches. With a 2 point doubles matches to determine the team winner, Ha and Shuai pulled off a straight set victory over Jason and Almaz to clinch the win.

Here we go!

Getting ready for the first matchday of the new Table Tennis League.
Whoop Whoop.

We have about 20 people indicating interest in the league, which is a great thing. From the comments that we have gathered, we are changing the plan slightly to allow for more flexibility for players, which means that instead of having structured teams, we are making it into a drop-in format.

Please don't wear orange shirts, as the offical balls would be ITTF 3-Stars Orange Double Happiness 40mm balls.

Top 6-8 players (based on the league organizer, me) will be placed Division A for this week. Next 6-8 players will be placed in Division B, and the next 6-8 will be placed in Division C. The players in each division will be placed into two teams that would go head-to-head in a team format.

Based on your single's win-loss records, you may be moved up or down accordingly for the next matchday.
